MURPHYSBORO â Jessica Louise Green and Ivan Sergeev, both of Carbondale were united in marriage at the Historic Liberty Theater in Murphysboro.

Clergyman Michael Berardi performed the 3 p.m. Oct. 20, 2012, double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of James Green and Jackie Streeper-Green of Trilla.

The groom is the son of Sergev and Natalia Sergeev of Samara, Russia.

The bride wore a strapless white gown with an empire waist, and beaded bodice. She carried a bouquet made of purple and orange lilies and orchids, accented with ornamental grass.

Her maid of honor was Kazu Takeguchi of Carbondale. Her bridesmaids were Emily Sinnott of St. Louis; Rachel Sinnott of Oak Park, cousins of the bride; Rebeca Lira, Stephanie Williamson, both of Carbondale.

The attendants wore plum gowns and carried bouquets of purple and orange cala lilies.

The groomâs best man was Maxwell Houghan, Sandwich; and his groomsmen were Joshua Green, Dewey, brother of the bride; Omar Trinidad, Matt Bullock, and Jonathan Clark, all of Carbondale.

Elikam Gatos, son of Vivian and Erik Gatos, Statesboro, Ga. was the ring bearer. Emma Russell, daughter of Becky and Lance Russell of Carbondale, was the flower girl.

Prayers were given by Holly and Kyle Wyne, and Mayumi and Omar Trinidad.

A supper reception was held at Murphysboro Event Center.

The groom earned a masterâs degree in manufacturing engineering from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; and the bride earned a masterâs degree in architecture at SIU-C.

He is a project manager at Southern Illinois Health Care and she is a city planner for the City of Carbondale.

They took a honeymoon trip to Charleston, S.C.They reside in Carbondale.

RALEIGH - Five people were injured, including two critically, on a carnival ride known for its wild twirls and flips at the North Carolina State Fair, and officials were trying to determine Friday exactly what caused the accident.

The ride was temporarily idled as workers replaced the switch, Chambers said. It reopened Monday night after being tested.

rolex watches State agricultural commissioner Steve Troxler, whose agency runs the fair, said he remains confident in the safety of the rides and plans to let his own grandchild enjoy them this weekend. He stressed that the accident was "an isolated incident."

The Vortex is a large ride that spins, twirls and flips passengers upside down. Fair spokesman Brian Long said the machine would undergo inspection by the Labor Department, and that the Wake County Sheriff's Office would also conduct its own investigation and look for witnesses.

The Vortex was shut down Friday, blocked with steel barricades and yellow crime scene tape. Two sheriff's deputies stood guard nearby.

Long said the ride would remain closed for the duration of the fair, which ends Sunday.

A New York-based carnival company, Powers Great American Midways, was hired by the state to provide and operate rides for the fair. The company owns 54 of the rides and hired subcontractors to provide the rest, Les Powers, the company's owner, told The Associated Press on Friday.

The Vortex was among the subcontracted rides, and Powers said he didn't know what had caused the accident.

"Nobody wants this to happen, and we're trying to find out why this did happen," Powers said. "Oh my God, we feel absolutely horrible for the families," he said. "I'm not used to this. This doesn't happen. I don't know how to react. I tried to sleep last night, but I couldn't. I just feel so horrible for them, about the whole thing. I wish I could turn the clock back. "

An accident involving a ride owned by a Powers subcontractor occurred in 2010 at a county fair in Maryland when a ride operator was struck in the head during a malfunction, Powers acknowledged. And in June 2012, a young boy was hospitalized after falling from a small roller coaster provided by Powers' company for a fair in Danbury, Conn.

Labor Department inspectors performed safety checks on all the rides before the fair opened, Chambers said. Ride operators are supposed to do three daily operational checks and record those in a log, he said. State inspectors then perform "spot checks" of the logs to confirm operators are complying with the rules.

Wake Sheriff Donnie Harrison said Friday that his investigators are talking to witnesses and urged those with any video of the incident to step forward.

Caleb Norris told WNCN television of Raleigh that he heard a crashing sound just after getting off the Vortex. He turned around and saw two people lying face down. Witnesses made frantic calls to 911 to report that people had fallen off the ride, according to transcripts provided by the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

The incident appears to be the first serious ride-related accident at the North Carolina fair in years. In 2002, a ride operator at the fair was killed when he was struck by the ride while it was still in operation.

He worked as a millwright for 40 years at Daimler, earning an award of merit and a gold medal from the engineering union. In spite of the extensive racial prejudice prevailing at that time, Charles led a full and active life in the local community, playing cricket for Foleshill Albion and regularly attending Stoke St Michaelâs Church with his wife, Sarah Ann. His is an extraordinary story of perseverance and endeavour in the face of difficult circumstances.

In 1933 Charles supported his sons, Bob and Bill, in setting up a building and joinery company to be known as âHall Brosâ, based in Walsgrave, Coventry. Bob served a seven year apprenticeship as a bricklayer and they set up the business with a bank loan that Charles had underwritten with the deeds of the family home in Stoke. The business was closed during the war whilst Bob served as a sergeant in the Royal Air Force, building airfields in Iceland and the Hebrides.

Early motor car bodies were made of wooden frames and the firmâs first venture in joinery manufacturing was to supply these frames to the Daimler works. Eventually the brothers moved on to construct many hundreds of flats, houses and factory units, mainly in the Wyken, Walsgrave and Holbrooks areas, contributing significantly to the post-war reconstruction of the City. The very first houses were built in Woodway Lane, adjacent to Sowe Common in 1933. Bob never failed to remind anyone that he had laid every single brick in all four properties! Before the war the brothers built more houses in Farren Road, Ansty Road and elsewhere in the City.

After the war in 1945, the business resumed trading in an area of rapid redevelopment, building primarily council houses to house the ever growing population of the City. There were several other significant developments around this time:

Hinckley Road, Shirley Road and Regina Crescent were the first private developments after the war of semi-detached houses and bungalows, built by Hall Bros in 1955.

The company also engaged in contracting and a major project was a new factory for the expanding AP Metalcraft, a local company specialising in pressed metal work, doing much work for the Admirality and for Coventryâs rapidly expanding industrial base.

The relationship with this company continued for over 60 years. Another project which Bob was particularly proud of was the construction of the new Salvation Army Citadel in Camden Street Stoke.

Shulmanâs Walk, Mardol Close and Gresley Road was an innovative development of its time, principally of bungalows, some of which were intended for families.

In 1970, Bobâs son, Robert, joined the business as General Manager of the company, a position he still holds today.

The Stoke Hill Estate and the Primrose Park Estate were constructed in the early 1970s and were a mixture of semi-detached and terraced houses. These were followed by the construction of flats in Earle Court and bungalows in Regis Walk.

Wootton Court was a significant entry to the private lettings arena in the days of rent regulation. This is a three-storey block of apartments on the corner of Henley Road and Wyken Croft. It remains typical of the construction style of that period.

In the late 1970s, following many years of discussions with the planning authorities, development began on the 50 acre Mount Pleasant Estate. This major development incorporates family homes in Manfield Avenue, sheltered accommodation at Marsh House, built for the new Hestia Housing Association, shared ownership apartments as well as retail and leisure facilities.

This was followed by the construction of detatched houses in Turlands Close and more houses, bungalows and maisonettes in Shuna Croft and The Kintyre.

The final phase of this development is currently under construction. The naming of the roads on many of the developments reflected Bobâs deep affection for Scotland where he spent many enjoyable holidays.

The Henley Industrial Estate was built in partnership with AP Metalcraft Ltd in the mid-1980s. This consisted of 14 industrial units and the conversion of the firmâs offices and joinery works into a further unit and the existing petrol station into a retail outlet.

Just off the Henley Road is Willow Courtyard which is a small private development for the over- 55s in two-storey blocks consisting of mainly two bedroom apartments.

More recent developments include The Old Yard which is a substantial development of 86 apartments on the site of the firmâs old building yard and joinery factory. This was designed primarily for professionals working at the nearby University Hospital. It is a proud boast of Hall Bros that every single brick on the site was laid by current or former students of City College, Coventry. The development was officially opened in 2004 by Sir John Gains, the then Chairman of the Construction Confederation and Group Chief Executive of Mowlem plc, and a former student at King Henry VIII School in Coventry.

Harmony Court and Mull Court were completed in the late 2000s. These are single blocks of apartments catering for active professionals and also for the over 55s.
