A Canadian sings in Brooklyn: Melanie Fiona blends music and cultureComment ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestRedditGoogle+EmailPrintSee also Celebrity Topicsmelanie fionaeosTongue & GrooveRoc Nation Melanie Fiona performs at Tongue & Groove in Atlanta, Ga. clshoes Itâs all about freedom to be an original when Melanie Fiona creates music. Whether itâs 4 a.m. or sheâs lounging before a concert, Fionaâs sincerity is a breath of fresh air. The Brooklynite by way of Canada embodies a pioneering spirit, be it passionate idealism or her journey from Canada to the U.S., Fiona is the poster child for the new generation of artists with a set of soulful pipes to back it up.

christian louboutin shoes discount sale Before a show in Atlanta at Tongue & Groove nightclub, Fiona is relaxed, she walks in wearing a pair of Nikes, leggings, a t-shirt, vest, and a skull cap with a button that reads âThink Positiveâ attached to it. Her long dark hair falls effortlessly down her shoulders and she sits down with a smile.

fashion christian louboutin outlet âIs it okay if I eat? I havenât had lunch yet. Iâm starving,â she explains.

fashion christian louboutin outlet Surprisingly down to earth for a two time Grammy Award winning artist. She reaches in the bag to grab a fry, an American favorite, and begins to talk. Fionaâs earthy demeanor exudes a girl next door quality. As she explains why she chose to live in Brooklyn, itâs not hard to see her amongst the music lovers of her generation hanging out in Fort Greene or shopping in Williamsburg.

christian louboutin boots sale âI love Brooklyn,â she gushes. âI lived in Manhattan and that served its purpose, but when I moved to New York again I wanted to live in a place where I knew my neighbors and could ride my bike.â

christian louboutin shoes discount From the soul

Fiona is just as grounded about her music as she is about her living space. She takes the stage in a pair of cut-off jeans, a black top, black hat and black Christian Louboutin heels. Her rich velvety voice stands up against the rift of the guitar accompanying her performance. Soon she is whaling âI just keep on running, runningâ while fans in the front row sing her lyrics word for word. Fionaâs movements and connection to her music are reminiscent of a young Tina Turner or Gladys Knight.

âI listen to Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. Sam Cooke is one of my biggest influences from old soul, thatâs who I really love,â Fiona says. âAlbum wise they can expect classic Melanie Fiona. I love classic music. I love music thatâs timeless, so I donât really like to do anything thatâs too current. For my albums I am a bit more classic, instrumental and a bit more musical.â

She recently teamed with Pepsi and Complex to debut the video for â Cold Piece ,â a song where she experiments with the 90âs drum sound. The singer plans to release more songs in a package titled â Free Love â for her fans in between albums. The song âCold Pieceâ may be a little different than what her fans are accustomed to hearing from the songstress, but the inspiration is authentic Melanie.

âThe inspiration behind the song came from a breakup there are so many things behind a break up anger and joy, and this song is really about a lesson learned. Sometimes when you have to really examine somebodyâs flaws you canât do anything for them, they are how they are, and you have to talk about it,â she explains. âI really wanted to approach the song from a rap stand point. I wanted to be kind of sassy.â

Fionaâs music is a mix of old school R&B, rock and new school R&B. Fiona rejects the music industry stnadard, instead opting for a broader sound. Much like her personality, she feels her music is too evolved to be restricted to certain ears.

âI donât like to be labeled. Being labeled R&B isnât the worst thing. I love R&B and I think R&B is the foundation for a lot of music. I donât take offense to it; I just donât want to be limited to just one genre. When people come to my shows and hear my full body of work theyâre like its really diverse, its rock, hip hop and reggaeâŚ. and then of course R&B and soul. I have always envisioned myself and categorized myself as a world artist and thatâs how I feel I would like my music to be classified.â

Blending cultures, mixing music

Fionaâs sound is a reflection of her lineage. The walking symbol of multiculturalism has just as many ethnicities running through her veins as there are chords in her music. She identifies herself as Guyanese, but like so many people of mixed heritage the blend is almost endless. When Fiona made her debut in 2009, it was never a question of her vocal talent or range, but to her American audience, a question of her race. Fiona quickly realized the irony of the American melting pot is she had to choose.

âComing from Toronto its diverse everywhere and there are pockets and places in America that are not as diverse. So when I come down and when I say I am Guyanese I have to educate people on where Guyana is, and what that means for me,â Fiona explains âIâm Caribbean and theyâll say âOh youâre from South America, so youâre Spanish.â No Iâm not Spanish, technically, Iâm Caribbean. Guyanaâs culture is very similar to that of Trinidad, and then they would say âSo youâre just Black with nice hair.â Well Iâm Indian, Black, Portuguese, Scottish and all these things, but no one really cares to hear Iâm Heinz 57, so itâs hard. I feel like thatâs something I experienced coming here, where I was forced to really indentify with one cultureâ

Drawing inspiration from artists who have crossed color and gender lines is essential to her creative process. Fiona toured with Alicia Keys in 2010, a milestone in her career she says gave her a vision of the direction in which she wanted to take her music.

âI love people like Alicia Keys. Itâs not about race or gender or radio format. I had the pleasure of touring with her and I saw diversity in audiences and I saw people who love pop music and rock music at her shows, so thatâsâ how I feel. And thatâs who Iâm influenced by,â She explains. âLauryn Hill is one of my biggest influences and what she is able to do as an artist from a rapper, songwriter, singer, actress and performer itâs just super inspiring to me. I love any artist that is able to break barriers.â

This past September, Fiona followed in the footsteps of many of her peers and expanded her repertoire playing the role of Shannon in the stage play âDa Kink in My Hairâ during its Atlanta run. The opportunity gave the singer/songwriter a chance to try out her acting skills and confront some issues she observed about American culture, particularly African -American culture.

âThey say you get caught by the acting bug and I definitely feel like thatâs happening to me,â Fiona says. âDa Kink in My Hairâ was such a great introduction to me because it allowed me to talk about issues we all face as women and women of color in particular. It was self-love, body image, hair texture image, segregation, multi-racial dating and sexuality.â

The self-described island girl says experiencing the emphasis on hair in the Black community was a culture shock to her. Even now, after living in the United States for years she has difficulty understanding the reasoning behind basing a âclassâ system on something as trivial as hair. Acting in the play allowed her to explore the layers of emotion beneath the complexities of Black hair.

âIt takes place in a hair salon where we are at our most vulnerable and weâre beautifying ourselves, and seeing the transformation and what we go through. I think specifically the fact that it is titled âDa Kink in My Hairâ is already putting a magnifying glass on something women of color deal with all the time which is classism based on your hair. Thatâs something I never understood growing up. I never realized until I actually came to America how much of an issue it is here and how some people are very defensive, some people are sensitive and some people are very proactive,â Fiona admits. âI feel like itâs a real issue here and what âDa Kink in My Hairâ does is break the walls down and says forget about hair, look at these things that we have in common that we struggle with internally, emotionally, and socially. We should focus on those things and healing each other rather than breaking each other down based on hair. I love the play for that reason. I love that itâs not just about hair, but it uses hair as the catalyst to then talk about all these other things.â

Much like artists of the 60âs Fiona uses her music to bend the rules and expand the minds of her listeners. Her music is indirectly political, embodying the ideals and ideas the United States was built on. She represents a new generation of Americans who through art are expanding social boundaries.

âWe work so hard as people to create a world of freedom and equality of gender, of race and of sexuality. Why are we still defining what people are able to do or how they fit in based off the color of their skin?â Fiona reiterates. âIt was definitely a culture shock coming down here and seeing how weâre forced to check boxes. Thatâs why I want to represent as an artist who just doesnât live in the boxes.â

Is it rude to ask guests to take their shoes off?By BETH J. HARPAZNovember 5, 2013 11:47 AM0sharesContent preferencesDone. View galleryThis Oct. 30, 2013 photo shows shoes on racks in the âmud roomâ at the home of Rachel Kerstetter in Cleveland. …

timberland NEW YORK (AP) â In Michigan, you're expected to leave snowy boots in the mudroom before going inside. In Alaska, boots are taken off in "Arctic entries." In Japan, Thailand and many other countries, you wouldn't dream of entering a home with your shoes on, regardless of the season.

timberland boot sale But removing shoes before coming inside has not been the norm in much of the U.S.

timberland boots on sale These days, however, city dwellers and suburbanites from New York to Los Angeles often find that hosts expect footwear to be left at the door. Sometimes it's because of weather; other times, homeowners want to protect light-colored rugs and high-gloss wood floors from dirt and dings, or parents don't want street germs on floors where kids play.

timberland discount shoes Some guests find the request irksome â especially at holiday parties when they're dressed up. "But this is an outfit!" squeals Carrie Bradshaw in a "Sex and the City" episode when asked to take her shoes off at a baby shower. (Insult to injury: Her high-heeled Manolos are stolen during the party.)

timberland discount shoes Shalena Broaster of Philadelphia â whose friends call her "the diva" â says her first thought when asked to remove shoes is: "I just pray I have a fresh pedicure!" Since she's only 5 feet tall, she also misses the height her stilettos provide.

timberland fashion boots Classy hosts with a no-shoes rule hand out "guest socks" or inexpensive slippers that folks can take home. But please don't offer Broaster your old tube socks. "Nasty!" she said.

Rachel Kerstetter of Cleveland wrote on her blog, http://www.ProbablyRachel.com , that guests sometimes make her feel "like a criminal" for asking them to remove shoes. She offered 10 reasons why her household is "shoes-free," including preserving the carpet, allowing guests to relax and put their feet up, and keeping allergens out of the house along with "grass, leaves, mud, dirt, bugs, gum, oil, tar and yes, even animal poo."

For everyday comings and goings, Kerstetter and her husband use a mudroom by the back door. For company, they put a shoe rack in a small foyer near the front door.

"We like to walk around barefoot and we want to have our home clean," Kerstetter said. She "didn't grow up in a no-shoes household, but my parents taught me to ask" the host's preference before entering.

Another must for shoes-off parties: Put a chair by the door. Don't make guests hop unbalanced on one shoe while taking off the other. And put out a shoe rack so footwear doesn't end up in a pile.

Adi Bittan planned her wedding at the home of friends in Pescadero, Calif., before realizing that the hosts had a no-shoes rule. "We were worried how that would look and whether our guests would feel uncomfortable or embarrassed," she said. She solved the problem by buying fun socks â with no-skid soles â as one of the wedding favors. Even she and the groom wore them.

"Guests young and old ended up loving it," she said. "They compared colors, took photos with their fun socks on and were excited to take them home." Some of the women even thanked her for saving them from excruciating high heels.

But the pro-shoes crowd doesn't buy the no-shoes reasoning. If you're worried about wood floors, they say, invest in inexpensive rugs. Protecting a white carpet? Roll it up. Tracked-in dirt? Mop or vacuum.

"It is the height of tacky to invite guests to your home and then require that they remove anything more than outdoor attire," said Jodi R.R. Smith of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting in Marblehead, Mass. "It is one thing to ask me to leave my L.L. Bean boots at the door for a Super Bowl party held during a snowstorm in New England. It is another to ask me to remove my heels at a cocktail party where everyone is dressed in suits and dresses."

If you must ban shoes, says Smith, the invitation should say so. "Guests should not be surprised by your request," she said. Imagine the mortification of a guest whose socks have holes.

Jessica Gottlieb of Los Angeles says she is "disgusted when people want me to take my shoes off in their home. ... OK, I get it for upstairs areas or bedrooms or even if you're Japanese. But if you're my American friend who just wants a clean floor, forget about it. It's a power play and no, you don't get to undress me.

"My shoes are there," she added, "to keep me comfortable, cute and free of your foot fungus."

  • As a style director, I feel that I really ought to have a 'signature look'. So why can't I make up my mind between girlish, mannish and everything-else-ish?BY Kate Finnigan |17 November 2013"My wardrobe appears entirely without direction. Biker jackets fight baseball jackets. A camel wool coat is uncomfortable next to a rubbery green macintosh" Photo: ALASTAIR LEVY

The women whose style I really admire are the women who have one look and don't shift from it. Those whose sartorial identity is so fixed that we could identify them from the contents of their wardrobe as easily as their passport photograph. Those who've found the fashion holy grail - their Signature Look - and stayed loyal to it: Katharine Hepburn and her wide-legged trousers;Sofia Coppolaand her rhapsodies in navy-blue Louis Vuitton;Rossella Jardini, the founder of Moschino, and her silk shirt-dresses;Carolina Herrera's white shirts and long skirts; even Kate Moss and her black skinny jeans, or Diane Keaton and those funny white roll-neck jumpers. They've chosen their schtik and, well, schtuck to it.

    READ: Top 10 fashion eccentrics

It is much to my regret that I am not that woman. I'd love to have the closet where navy jacket sits alongside navy jacket and then, a few more navy jackets down, the hue bleeds gradually into charcoal or slate grey before fading to black. White shirts are stacked like pillars of salt and piles of sweaters in marl grey and mushroom resemble a little-known minimalist branch of Benetton. Black and dark-blue and grey trousers of the perfect cut and length await my bidding.

A uniform. That's what I feel I should have. Because when my editor asked me to write about the different "looks" I wear to work I was embarrassed. The truly chic have a uniform. All the best stylists wear navy blue and black and grey and embrace androgyny. I like that, and sometimes I wear it, but I can't only wear that. I still imagine that one day, when I'm grown-up, their way will be the way I dress. But as this week I hit a landmark birthday (clue: it's not 21), perhaps I have to face it that I'm never going to have a signature look.

Kate's best dresses (clockwise from top left): Christopher Kane "girl meets Frankenstein "; Madeleine Thompson "woolly witch"; Margeret Howell "Victorian workhouse"; Topshop "weekend in Brighton "; Teatum Jones "cocktails and canapĂŠs " (Full Stop)

Because my wardrobe appears entirely without direction. The jumpers may be stacked but they come in many colours and patterns and the piles are wobbly (more like closing-down day at the Benetton outlet). There are big skirts crowding the pencil skirts, modest 1940s dresses struggling to make themselves heard against loud silk prints by young British designers, biker jackets fighting baseball jackets, a camel wool coat uncomfortable next to a rubbery green macintosh.

To my mind all these things are "me", although, as my wardrobe appears to suffer from multiple-personality disorder, perhaps "us" would be more fitting. I can't confine myself to one me.

Don't get me wrong: I am noAnna Dello RussoorIris Apfel. I don't career from one zany outfit to another. You wouldn't pause as we passed because of my show-stopping, directional get-ups. Street-style photographers don't target me. I don't wake up every morning and say, "Who am I going to be today?" But I still cannot resist choosing variety over the uniform.

READ: Manchester: the real style capital of the UK?

With a school run and a commute, the easiest thing in the world would be if I had five pairs of black trousers and jackets and a bunch of shirts to alternate each day. And if your signature style is meant to be the look that suits your figure best, then I know that I should be wearing high-waisted trousers, a fitted shirt and mid-height heels, like the Stella McCartney trousers and Suno shirt in the picture. If I wore a variation of that every day perhaps I would always operate at my optimum. I know this but I'm too distracted by all the other possibilities.

I think it's the same reason why I never really had a "type" of boyfriend. Arty, intellectual, cool, uncool, geeky, rich, poor. I could see the good in all of them. For a bit. But while I've found my signature man, I'm still flirting with style.

Because what I like about clothes - and this is no great revelation to anyone who gets dressed in the morning - is their power of transformation. I like the boyishness of cropped black trousers, a thin-gauge sweater and a pair of brogues. But in this summer's heatwave, for example, I also loved how drifty, wafty andHideous Kinky-esque I felt in a 1970s Monsoon dress. Then again I also love the East Coast prim of my full wool skirt from Asos and a John Smedley polo neck, and the orphan-ish look of a blue drillMargaret Howelldress.

I blame books. Over the years I've imagined myself into too many invisible characters' invisible outfits. I've stood in too many fictional shoes - and crinolines. The first poetry I memorised at school, fromA Child's Garden of Verses, was this:

Whenever auntie moves aroundHer dresses make a curious sound. They trail behind her up the floor,And trundle after through the door

Even though I didn't wear a dress that could be accused of trundling until I was 32 and walking up an aisle, that was me smitten.

Kate's favorite shoes (clockwise from top left): Derek Lam "party like it's 1977 "; Rupert Sanderson "lady in red"; Robert Clegerie "The Best Shoe Ever "; Lucy Choi "the princess"; Penelope Chilvers "urban safari " (Full Stop)

I remember going to a party when I was 10 wearing a dress I'd chosen from Laura Ashley because it made me feel like Mary Lennox inThe Secret Gardenor one of E Nesbit's girls: a calf-length, dark-burgundy print with a Peter Pan collar and - absolutely essential - a ribbon around the waist.

All the other mini party-goers were in 1980s high-fidelity disco gear. The 11-year-old hostess said in a babying tone that she liked my dress, which I knew meant the opposite, but I didn't care. I looked out of place in a semi-detached in the Mancunian suburbs but I was wearing the perfect outfit in which to meet Little Lord Fauntleroy or be spirited away by the Snow Queen.

Well, you don't want that kind of thing escalating, do you? Thankfully in my teens I was distracted by music and exchanged some of the devotion to books for devotion to bands and an accompanying costume of ripped jeans and Lycra.

    READ: Cutting-edge cosiness

But then I discovered second-hand clothes. My sister and I came across a green leather 1970s jacket and a cropped ivory faux-fur coat in Oxfam, and the whole thing started again. At a party my best friend sniggered that in my new/old fur I looked as if I was going to the opera, but that was music to my ears. Looking as if I should be somewhere else was exactly the air I'd intended.

When second-hand clothes became the vintage explosion of the late 1990s I was in very heaven. I lived in a flat in Kensington in a huge bedroom with a clothes rail that my friend Jeannie referred to as the fancy-dress shop. I was working for Elle magazine and travelling a lot, so there were no restrictions. On the rail hung: a royal-blue gold-embroidered Orthodox priest's robe from when a Finnish model in Helsinki took me shopping (yes, it was absolutely as appalling as it sounds); a scarlet tutu; a $10 pearl-embellished dress from a fleamarket in Los Angeles; remodelled bits and pieces from Summer Phoenix's boutique in New York; cotton petticoats I had had made in Vietnam; beaded cardigans from Annie's in Islington; a vintage pearl tie...

Reader, I wore it all. To work! God help me. The line between vintage and mad person must have been crossed many, many times.

These days I have neither the inclination to dress like that nor the time to shop for it (trawling for vintage is like having a second job), but I still can't rein myself in entirely. One day maybe I'll grow up and settle down with that monochrome uniform. But at the moment, me and clothes, we're still in a romantic phase.

nike The importance of Mexico's qualification into the 2014 Brazil World Cup matters more than just in terms of a country's strong identity to the sport - it matters in dollars and cents,

nike football outlet Much to the chagrin of United States national team soccer team fans, Mexican soccer dominates the sports business landscape in North America, with $600 million on the line as the Mexican national team finds themselves in the unfathomable position of having to take on Oceania champion New Zealand in a home-and-home playoff for the right to participate in the 2014 World Cup.

Nike Air Max "Mexico is our prize possession," said Ernesto Bruce, head of soccer for adidas North America, with El Tri's jerseys selling in the U.S. as strongly Nike's U.S.team jerseys during the last World Cup cycle.

nike outlet shoes for sale Adidas is not the only major sponsor with money invested in the success of the Mexican national team with Coca-Cola, Banamex, and Movistar all watching Wednesday's first leg game with great interest, having put up $300 million in a four-year sponsor package sold by Mexico's national soccer federation.

nike outlet online In fact, Mexican Football Federation Justino Compean states that revenue during the World Cup cycle, between marketing, sponsorships and television rights, can total to upwards of $250 million.

nike outlet shoes for men And then there are the broadcasters in both Mexico and the United States who stand to lose money - in some cases returning money to advertisers - if the Mexican national team fails to make the World Cup. Both Televisa and TV Azteca of Mexico each paid an estimated $100 million for the rights in their home country.

Univision, who paid $325 million for the Spanish-language rights to the 2010 and 2014 World Cup, counts on the loyalty of the Mexican fanbase who make up 65 percent of the estimated 53 million Hispanics living in the U.S., to tune in and support their team.

Mexico's failure to beat New Zealand could also have a ripple effect on Major League Soccer - particularly the league's marketing arm, Soccer United Marketing (SUM), who own the rights to stage five friendlies on American soil annually.

A World Cup berth could make the difference between a series of games preparing the team for the Brazil tournament, as far as the U.S. tour and SUM's bottom line - or a barnstorming tour featuring Mexico's next rising stars hoping to make the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Then there is El Tri's rabid, hardcore fans that would travel to Mars if the team was playing a road game in that location, with Mexico's foreign ministry estimating that 30,000-plus soccer fans traveled to each of the 1998 France, 2002 South Korea / Japan, and 2006 Germany World Cups, while Bloomberg reports that 15,000 Mexicans went to 2010 South Africa World Cup at a cost of $10,000 a person.

"I would say that the atmosphere between all the stakeholders and sponsors, it's about doubts, it's about uncertainty and it's about questions," said Rogelio Roa, director DreaMatch Solutions, a sports marketing firm based out of Mexico City to ESPN. "No one would have suspected that, at this point, Mexico wouldn't have a spot in the World Cup."

Beats PRO & Beats Studio at Beats By Dre Among the opening-page eye-catchers: a $500 55-inch 120Hz 1080p LED LCD TV from LG, and Samsung's even bigger 65-inch 120Hz 1080p LED LCD TV, priced at $1,000. Both sets are eligible for free delivery.

Beats by dre wireless outlet Like several of its competitorsâincluding Walmart and Target âthis year the electronics chain opens at 6:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving. ( Sears opens at 8:00 p.m.) Best Buy says it will hand out tickets up to two hours before the stores open. But for night owls who prefer to shop later, Best Buy is promising some unannounced "mystery" midnight doorbusters. Â

best beats by dre Other prominently featured doorbuster TVs are two Insignia-brand 60Hz 1080p LED LCD TVs: an $80 24-inch set, and a $179 39-inch model.

Beats By Dr. Dre: Headphones As you can tell, Best Buy isn't making it easy to compare prices, as it didn't publish specific model numbers. As we get closer to Black Friday, we'll try to figure out the models the store is promoting. Â

Best Buy has a large assortment of TVs in all screen sizes. Those who are looking for a smaller TV or a second or third TV for an office or den may be interested in a 24-inch 60Hz 720p LED LCD TV from LG, priced at $150, or two 32-inch Samsung sets: a 720p model for $228 and a 1080p set for $278.

Several major brands, plus an Insignia set, make up Best Buy's midsized Black Friday TV assortment. Those sets include:

If you have a room that can accommodate an even larger-sized set, there are a few models from which to choose, including:

a 55-inch 240Hz 1080p 3D-capable Samsung smart LED LCD TV (with four sets of glasses) from Samsung for $1,298 a 60-inch Sharp 120Hz 1080p LED LCD TV for $800 a 60-inch 120Hz 1080p Samsung smart LED LCD TV priced at $998 a 60-inch 240Hz 1080p 3D-capable smart Samsung smart LED LCD TV (with four sets of glasses) for $1,598 a 65-inch 240Hz 1080p 3D-capable Samsung smart LED LCD TV (with four sets of glasses) with a price of $1,998

Of course, not everyone is shopping for a TV this year, and Best Buy has several specials deals across all product categories. Among the deals in the video category:

a Sony Wi-Fi Blu-ray player for $55 an LG W-Fi Blu-ray layer for $55 a Samsung 3D Wi-Fi Blu-ray player for $88 a 2.1-channel Samsung soundbar with a wireless subwoofer for $168 a Roku 2 streaming media player for $60 an Apple TV is $85 the Google Chromecast is $30 instead of $35

Those looking to pump up the sound this holiday can choose from two wireless speakers: a $99 Jawbone Jambox , or the Beats by Dr. Dre Pill , priced at $150. A Samsung 2.1-channel sound-bar speaker with a wireless subwoofer is $168.

Those looking for more private listening can get a set of Skullcandy Ink'd 2 earbuds, or Sony's over-ear ZX headphones, each priced at $10. Higher-priced models include a Motorola behind-the-neck Bluetooth earphones (they look like the S11 Flex HD) for $60, a $70 set of nabi volume-limiting headphones for kids, or the Beats by Dre Beats Solo HD on-ear headphones for $180.

As we've mentioned in other Black Friday posts, now that many major retailers have announced (or leaked) their Black Friday plans, we'll be going through all the circulars and online specials to ferret out the best deals on TVs and other audio-video gear. Keep checking back for updates.

nike factory store Adidas America in North Portland served as host Thursday fora media event introducing footwear and apparel for the upcoming 2014 FIFA WorldCup in Brazil.

nike shoes outlet wholesalers Herbert Hainer, chief executive of Adidas made this clearearlier this year at soccer-related event.

Sports Shoes Outlet Shop Hainer has forecast that soccer sales will rise to a record$2.7 billion next year, riding the expect demand linked with the World Cup. Incommenting last week on the company's third quarter results, Hainer said theWorld Cup effect would be seen in next quarter.

Nike Soccer Jerseys Two ofthe company's top soccer executives – Antonia Zea, global director of soccerinnovation and Ernesto Bruce, director of US soccer, introduced uniforms andfour existing shoes that have been retooled and improved in anticipation of theWorld Cup.

The eventserved primarily as a showcase for products, as all have previously beenintroduced. However, company executives would not publicly discuss the officialgame ball, the design of which is a closely guarded secret that will not beshared until its ESPN-televised unveiling Dec. 3. Tournament matchups will beannounced Dec. 6.

"Socceris in our DNA," Bruce told about 35 journalists gathered at the North Americanheadquarters on North Greeley Avenue. "No one knows soccer like Adidas."

Brucedisplayed jerseys for four of the company's most important federations, including world champion Spain, Germany, Argentina and Mexico.

Thejersey for the Mexico national team, which sold 33 million units for the lastWorld Cup, is expected to again be the top-seller, Bruce said. The company, aswell as any soccer brand wanting to sell product in a World Cup year in Mexico,is relieved after Mexico's 5-1 victory Wednesday over New Zealand, likelyassuring the team will find a place in the 32-team World Cup field.

In the run-up to the World Cup, Bruce mentioned that Adidaswould shine a light on Lionel "Leo" Messi of Argentina, who the Germany-basedcompany contends is the world's number one soccer player.

Zea, speaking generally about World Cup soccer balls, notedthe company has been responsible for their production since 1970. Soccerplayers worldwide have an emotional connection with each World Cup ball, hesaid.

Kelly Clarkson talks getting pregnant on 'The Tonight Show'

Follow @DocBrown_TV on Twitter | GoogleNewlywed Kelly Clarkson isn't wasting any time when it comes to starting a family. When the singer was a guest on Monday's (Nov. 11) "Tonight Show with Jay Leno," she talked about practicing for pregnancy and wanting five kids. Clarkson did not, however, admit that she could pregnant already. But she didn't deny it either. Cheerful is probably not an adequate word to describe Clarkson's mood when chatting with Jay Leno . She was happy to talk about her "secret" wedding, although she insisted that there was nothing secret about it. "We just decided to not do it so big," she said, noting that the date never changed. Even Clarkson's engagement story was adorable. Apparently, she wasn't exactly ready when her now-husband popped the question. "We had one day off. He sat down and popped the question," Clarkson explained, adding "I had no bra on. I was in Uggs. I had a sweatshirt on. I was not hot." But the singer did say yes -- as soon as she realized that she hadn't actually responded. Now that she is married -- to her manager's son, a fact she occasionally finds "kind of incestuous and awkward" -- Kelly Clarkson seems very ready for the next step. "I never wanted kids before, but now I want like five," she said. "I want a baby with little feet. I just want to bite 'em!" Of course, Jay Leno had to ask his guest if she was expecting. Clarkson's cagey response was "We are not announcing anything right now." So that's a maybe. She is, however, very much working on getting pregnant. "Practice makes perfect!" Clarkson said with a grin. "Like rabbits!" Is Kelly Clarkson pregnant? Whether she is or not, it does sound like babies may be in the singer's future.Follow Zap2it on Twitter and Zap2it on Facebook for the latest news and buzz Photo/Video credit: Getty Images «Zooey Deschanel doesn't like Thanksgiving food or know 'True American' rulesPop2it mainKatey Sagal: 'Sons of Anarchy' star releases 'Covered' album» Related picsZap2it Elite Sheet Must Reads from the Web's In-Crowd in

replica tiffany A Florida mother will find out today if she will go to jail over the tragic death or her two-year-old daughter who was found dead in her bed after swallowing an oxycodone pill.

tiffany silver Tiffany Mitchell, 29, of Spring Hill, could face as many as 13 years in prison for the death of Kaylynn two years ago.

tiffany co Prosecutors say Mitchell left an oxycodone pill on her nightstand and that the brown-haired, blue-eyed girl found and swallowed it while Mitchell was taking a shower.

tiffany and co Kaylynn was found dead in her bed on January 31, 2011.

'Guilty': Tiffany Mitchell, 29, of Spring Hill, Florida, awaits sentencing today after pleading guilty in the death of her daughter Kaylynn, 2, who was found dead in her bed after eating an oxycodone pill

Tragic: Kaylynn is thought to have found her mother's oxycodone pill on the nightstand and swallowed it while Mitchell was taking a shower

Mitchell pleaded guilty last month to charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Her lack of a criminal record made it possible to cap her sentence at 13 years, but Mitchell says she must accept responsibility in Kaylynn's death.

‘I shouldn't have ever brought a pill like that into my house,’ she told Tampa Bay Times .

The devastated mother, who also has two sons, Shawn, 10, and Dylan, 8, said the sentencing would not change the way she feels about the accident.

More...Boy, 11, found handcuffed to porch with a dead chicken around his neck was 'kept prisoner' by his foster parents who made their 4 other adopted children 'sleep on a feces covered floor'Girl, 7, saves mom's life with move she remembered from Mrs Doubtfire movie

‘Whether it's probation or prison, I'll suffer every day for the rest of my life.’

The prosecutor said a prison term is justified, but is struggling to decide on how many years she should get.

‘There's no formula you get to follow,’ said Assistant State Attorney Donald 'Sonny' McCathran.

‘These are the cases that are a lot harder to call,’ he told Tampa Bay Times.

'Blue': The girl was found dead by her mother the next morning, who said her body was all blue and coldDevastated: Mitchell says regardless of the sentencing, she will 'suffer every day for the rest of my life'

The day before her daughter died, Mitchell picked up Kaylynn in Brooksville after she had spent two days at her father's home.

The father, KraigBroshears, 32, of Brooksville, says he forgives Mitchell, but that 13years in prison isn't long enough.

‘Shetook a life by being irresponsible. She'll have time with her boys whenshe gets out. I have to wake up every day and not see my daughter'sface,' he told Tampa Bay Times.

Mitchell and a boyfriend took the children shopping, had dinner and went out for ice cream.

Ather mobile home south of Brooksville, Mitchell tucked Kaylynn into bedand put on a Dora the Explorer movie. Mitchell took a shower and checkedon Kaylynn about 10. She seemed fine.

The night before: Kaylynn had been tucked into bed by her mother who put on a Dora the Explorer movie for her. She was found dead the next morning with high levels of oxycodone in her system

About 6am the next day, Mitchell found Kaylynn blue and cold to the touch. Paramedics could not revive her.

The following month, a preliminary medical examiner's report showed Kaylynn had a high level of oxycodone in her system and so a criminal investigation began.

‘I was devastated,’ Mitchell said. ‘For months, I wanted to know what happened to her, and I almost didn't believe it.’

She told detectives she got an 80-milligram oxycodone pill from the boys' paternal grandmother for menstrual cramps.

She said she left the pill on the nightstand in her bedroom and took a shower. When she came out, it was gone.

Thestate Department of Children and Families sought a court order to placeher two sons in protective custody. The judge denied the petition.

The father: Kraig Broshears, 32, of Brooksville, pictured here with his daughter, says he forgives Mitchell but that 13 years in prison isn't long enough

Upset: Broshears said his ex-girlfriend, Mitchell, took his daughter's life because she was 'irresponsible'

Mitchell admits she used to smoke marijuana and occasionally took oxycodone but insists she's not addicted to painkillers.

Mark Tousignant, who helped raise Mitchell since age 12, said she is a caring, responsible mother.

‘She's their rock,’ he said. ‘She's never been in a state of mind where she can't take care of her children or herself.’

Mitchell was arrested July 12, 2011

'Works hard': Mitchell, center, with her sons Shawn, 10, right, and Dylan, 8, at their home in Spring Hill. The boys said their mother worked hard for them

The youngest boy, Dylan, said of his mother that she ‘works hard for us'.

Mitchell was with the boys' father, Max Snyder of Spring Hill, for nine years.

If Mitchell goes to prison, her sister Angel will assume her role.

‘I know she would treat them just as I do and give them the love that they need,’ said Mitchell.
