Przede wszystkim zdejmujemy czapkę lub kapelusz – nie całujemy z nakrytą głową. Należy schylić się do lekko wyciągniętej dłoni, a nie wyrywać ją do siebie. To jest moment, w którym należy wyczuć czy ręka nie jest cofana przed całusem. W takim wypadku od razu rezygnujemy. Pocałunek nie powinien być soczysty, ale równie źle odbierane jest całowanie powietrza. Należy całować lekko muskając dłoń ustami. Nie całuje się dłoni w rękawiczce, ani nie zdejmuje tej rękawiczki. W większym gronie lepiej jest unikać całowania rąk, gdyż taka „taśmowa” ceremonia mogła by się wydać towarzystwu śmieszna. Najbezpieczniej jest praktykować ten zwyczaj wobec kobiet z najbliższego nam towarzystwa i rodziny. Warto też dodać, że to kobieta pierwsza powinna wykonać gest, który da mężczyźnie wskazówkę, że może pocałować dłoń kobiety - ale nie musi.
